Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas everyone! With ski and snow board conditions more than excellent this tired little ski bunny fell asleep standing. I am sure we will see much more of this on the mountain this winter. One of Mountain Valley Properties owners told us when leaving on Wednesday the 22nd that it was like he was skiing in Colorado. Now he has been skiing for around 60 years so I'm guessing he knows what he is talking about. We are not only skiing and snow boarding, cross county skiiers are having a great time as well. The more snow that fell and the colder the temps, the natives out back of the office start to get excited! By the time I got my camera the buffalo and the beef-a-lo were running toward the back of the field kicking up the snow!

Flour Girls Bakery Cafe

The Flour Girls - what a tasty treat Flour Girls Bakery Cafe with home baked goodness. When I talk about the Flour Girls and the new shop located near the corner of Rt. 219 and Rt 66 Cute just does not describe this shop. I always have to say CUTE, CUTE, CUTE!!! Anyway, everything in the shop is great from the sticky buns (well eveyone says they are great) I am afraid to try to the pepperoni rolls everything baked fresh daily +++ don't forget the great coffe. There is also a kids corner which is really CUTE, CUTE, CUTE as well, you can see this little girl came in from the cold and found her spot. So anyone that has been in Mountain Valley Properties Office the past 2 winters will recognize Staci in this picture. Winter

I want to write about internet and face to face incounters but the excitement of the upcoming ski season is winning out. We are looking at some cold night temperatures in the next couple of days which will bring the leaves to full color and then before you know it we will be skiing, riding, sliding, shoveling, snow man/woman making, bundling, shivering and enjoying another winter in the "Wild and Wonderful" West Virginia. Fall in the Mountains

Hi to all, you have to admit that fall is a favorite time of year. These warm days, leaves turning colors, football seems to make eveyone happy. I was down the branch (Dry Branch Road) a couple of days ago so would like to share this picture with you. Dry Branch is one of my favorite drives in the fall, this particular picture is of the flat rocks on the Elk River. Today in Marlinton is the Road Kill Cook-off and what a beautiful day for it. So get on out and enjoy this fall day.

Hole 5 as we just started our golfing day at the Shavers' Fork tournament last Sunday. A perfect day and a great time as always, a little 2 much fun for me anyway!

Summertime

As summer quietly comes to a close you can smell fall in the air and those memories of going back to school and sack lunches flood through my mind as I walk the dogs in the early hours of the morning. Afternoons of 85 and waking up to 55 degrees makes life in the mountains the perfect muse for fall.

Fun For All Ages - Open House

Hi to all, lots of exciting events coming up here in our area. On Snowshoe Mountain tomorrow is the Treasure on the Mountain drawing, this has been a huge success in past years with lots of people walking away with great gifts from cash to cars. This event is sponsored by the Snowshoe Foundation! Also tomorrow (8/7) from 9am to 2pm there is a mountain wide open house, from Village properties to Soaring Eagle view different mountain properties and put your name in a hat for great prizes. March 14 enjoy Blues, Brews and B-BQ's during the day and from 6 - 10 pm the first Annual Porch Party at the Linwood Community Library at the base of Snowshoe Mountain. Greenbrier River Trail

Spent the last couple of days in Virginia Beach, went to see Willie Nelson in concert and visit with my niece. I like VA Beach lots to do, great restaurants and beach side activities. When driving back yesterday though I was very happy to cross the state line back into West Virginia and again into Pocahontas County to the cooler temperatures and low humidity. Of course our activities are different here nearly everything and anything to do outside. The Greenbrier River Trail for example, just named in the top 10 things to do in USA today, is 78 miles of rail trails on the Greenbrier River, where stopping for a dip in the river or casting a line to catch dinner is a great way for the family to spend the day. If you haven't spent a family vacation in Pocahontas County now is the time. The Raven Golf Course at Snowshoe offers a challenging day of Golf! Have a great day!

Sumemr In West Virginia

Here we are in late July and before we know it students and teachers will be back in school. As I am thinking of my summers as a kid here in West Virginia and crossing the bridge in Marlinton I see floating/walking down the Greenbrier River made me ache for those innocent days with family and friends! So of course I took a picture and want to share with you. You know how it goes one thing leads to another as the sun warmed me and my heart and back to 5 weeks ago when I was dipping my grandchildren in the Elk River down at Whitaker Falls. Their back in Florida now but wishing they were here, my daughter says I don't want to know the temperature or humidity as I try to tell her. 80 degrees and 18% humidity with a breeze. And again that got me to thinking about asking you a question. Does great temperatures, lazy afternoons and cool rivers sound good? When spending time in Pocahontas County in the summer you can find all kinds of things to do. Make your own "fishin" pole. Don't really need to catch a fish. However, being the birth place of eight rivers you certainly can! Along with fishing, hiking is another great adventure in Pocahontas County. Throughout the month on June you can also attend demonstrations and workshops with the Mountain Heritage Artisans in Green Bank, visit the National Radio Astronomy Observatory while in Green Bank. Even though the threat of floods still remain, it has been snowing on top of Snowshoe Mountain. The creek across the street from our office is still in the banks. Let's hope for the best and keep the snow around without a slow melt.

Let It Snow

Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow! Winter Storm Warnings are causing problems through out Virginia, DC, Maryland and West Virginia. So everyone be careful out there. I did however here that a SLK230 Mercedes just flew by with out even sliding! So there you go!!

Anyway, back to the snow, we are so excited to have the great snow we have had this year with homeowners and guests alike enjoying the skiing!
